Ocean Acidification And Its Impact On Ecosystems

Emissions of carbon dioxide (CO2) through human activities have a well known impact on the Earth’s climate. What is not so well known is that the absorption of this CO2 by the oceans is causing inexorable acidification of sea water. But what impact is this phenomenon having on marine organisms and ecosystems? This is a question to which researchers have few answers as yet.

G8 environment ministers: halve emissions by 2050

Environment ministers from the G8 rich nations on Monday urged their leaders to set a global target to halve greenhouse gas emissions by 2050, a small but vital step in the fight against climate change.

But they stopped short of suggesting specific interim targets ahead of 2050, a key demand of developing countries in tough U.N.-led talks to forge a new treaty on global warming by the end of next year.

Hand Over Your Cooking Oils And Get A Reduced Busfare - Scottish Bus Network Goes Carbon Neutral

You can get a reduction on your busfare in Scotland if you hand over your cooking oil to a recycling plant making biofuels. Stagecoach, Scotland’s largest transport company, booked so much success with this green scheme in the past six months, it’s now embarking on a drive to become completely carbon neutral by the end of this year.

StatoilHydro says oil leaking at North Sea field

Norwegian energy group StatoilHydro reported a serious oil leak at its Statfjord oilfield in the North Sea on Saturday and said it evacuated all but emergency workers from platform A where oil is still leaking.

“The situation is serious and confused,” StatoilHydro said in a statement. No one is hurt or missing and clean-up crews have been mobilized to deal with the spill, the company said.
